3.75 Million Pounds of Litter Removed From Canadian Streets

The 49th annual PITCH-IN Week campaign launches with 625,000 volunteers organizing 15,000 clean-up events across Canada. PITCH-IN Week expects to collect 3.75 million pounds of litter throughout 6,000 community locations. To date PITCH-IN volunteers have removed 125,000 tonnes of litter from Canadian communities equating to the weight of 125 Eiffel Towers.

“Port of Newcastle is a waterfront community located on Lake Ontario in Clarington, Ontario and next to one of the most beautiful nature areas, Samuel Wilmot Nature Area,” Leo Blindenbach, PITCH-IN Week Coordinator.

The Port of Newcastle PITCH-IN Week campaign launched April 9th with an impressive community clean up where 2,733 pounds of litter was collected from their neighbourhoods, ravines, shorelines and trails.
